Running Remote Design Workshops That People Enjoy

A good workshop gets a whole team to agree in two hours on something that would otherwise take two weeks of email. Remotely, that only works with more structure, not less.
Before
- Send a short brief with one clear goal.
- Prepare the board in advance, with every exercise ready to go.
- Keep the group to six people or fewer.
During
Start with a five-minute warm-up that has nothing to do with the project. Alternate between silent work and discussion, so the loudest voice does not decide everything. Take a real break every forty-five minutes.
After
Send a one-page summary the same day: what we decided, what is still open, and who does what next. The workshop is only as good as its follow-up.
